“When our wounds cease to be a source of shame, and become a source of healing, we have become wounded healers.” — Henri Nouwen

Message from Jess

On my longest days when my brain is the most tired I look forward to putting Ted Lasso on, even though I’ve seen every episode multiple times. I love the light in the show—the way we witness an entire culture being changed and the way people grow and transform (most often) into a more whole version of themselves.

This past Sunday’s message included the story of Thomas seeing the wounds of the resurrected Jesus and then believing, which makes me wonder if we do a disservice to the people around us when we hide our emotional wounds.

Vulnerability and authenticity are key values to our community, and I confess that even with my education and personal experience I still catch myself falling into the trap of toxic positivity.

Toxic positivity minimizes our real emotion, or the feelings of other people we are with, and it prohibits our transformation. It’s the message Ted Lasso hasn’t quite yet figured out—that all of the wit, song lyrics, and choreographed goodbyes don’t touch the real hurt that we all carry.

When we invite the Holy Spirit to help us with our hurt, along with the people God has gifted (therapists, counselors, mentors, friends, etc.), we grow in empathy, compassion and relationship with the suffering of the world around us.

This week I invite you to ask God to give you eyes of compassion toward everyone you see, including the one staring back at you in the mirror. Notice what is different in your day when you begin with grace instead of judgment.

Blueprint Missions Camp!

Calling all youth for our return to Blueprint Missions Camp this summer! Last year, our amazing youth had the opportunity to grow in faith alongside other youth groups, while putting a new roof on the home of a local family, and even going the extra step to landscape & paint their home as well. We can't wait to go radiate the love of Jesus in our city in this special way!

Morning:

This is the day that you have made Lord and

I give you thanks for the breath in my lungs

and the chance to start again

Help me, like Thomas, to see your wounds and

believe that there is hope for healing of mine.

Remind me today that I carry your peace with me

That I carry you with me

Always

Amen.

Evening:

My heart is restless until I find rest in you God,

help me to rest tonight in your love

Today I have blessed and I have cursed

I have loved and I have hurt

Forgive me Lord, and help me to turn my remorse

into action, not just empty regret

I rest tonight in your grace and I thank you

for your unfailing love

Amen.
