In every nation, there are wounds to heal.
In every heart, there is the power to do it.”

Message from Jess:
Wednesday morning during Storytime, Chelsea read a beautiful book by Jacqueline Woodson titled The Year We Learned to Fly. The young children were afraid of a storm and their grandmother shared that they could overcome that fear by tapping into belief of what was inside of them and connecting with those who had gone before them who had experienced something similar.
She would tell them—lift your arms, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and believe in a thing.
Most often we are in search of something out there to save us, to heal us, to set us free. This was true of the Galatian people in our passage this week, as they clung to the law for guidance instead of the Holy Spirit. This is true of us today in the myriad of ways we grasp and search for help instead of recognizing the power that already lives within each of us.
Like the children in the story, we can learn to fly when we set aside our desire to be right, to be successful, to be powerful, or any of the other things that make us temporarily feel good about ourselves, but don’t give us true freedom and often enslave the people around us.
Instead, we can lift our arms, close our eyes, take a deep breath and allow the Spirit of God within us to guide us, shape us, and bear good fruit in us.
If our lives are not marked by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control then we cannot love our neighbor or ourselves well.
May we be people who are set free to set others free for the sake of the whole world.
This week I invite you to join me in asking the Spirit to guide our days with a special awareness of where we are and are not bearing good fruit.

Morning:
Good morning Lord, and thank you for this new day
Today I am reminded that you give me everything I need
Help me in this day to bear the fruit of your Spirit
To be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness,
goodness, faithfulness, and self control
in my small part of the world
May your love pour into me and through me and spill over in everything I do today
In Jesus name,
Amen.
Evening:
Thank you for this day and all of the ways I saw you in it.
I pray Lord, that you would move me to act
tomorrow in ways that show the world who you are
For the ways I was not kind today, I ask for your grace
For the ways I grasped at comfort and ease
and being right instead of doing what was right, forgive me.
It is you who strengthens me, you who sustains me
and you who gives me hope for a new beginning.
I rest in your love tonight and in your goodness
my heart overflows with gratitude.
Amen.
