WHAT’S GOOD

Thrift Pop-Up Recap

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our thrift-pop up over the weekend!

We were able to raise $500 for Nuevos Vecinos thanks to everyone who came out to thrift, sip, and support. We’re so grateful for the great turnout and the generosity that made this possible. We’re aiming to host these more regularly, so stay tuned for the next one!

Also, a huge thank you to our volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly—we couldn’t have done it without you. Community like this is why we do what we do. 💛

Welcoming Fall

Taylor Bates, Deputy Director, Sunset Ridge Collective

Have you noticed the light shifting? Every year around this time, when I slow down enough to pay attention, I start to see the light changing in our home. Suddenly new reflections and shadows appear and little spots glow with an amber light. We dusted off our back porch and it’s nearly cool enough to start enjoying it again. Fall is arriving in our little part of the world.

I wonder how the birds experience it, without calendars and clocks. They too notice the light changing, the air cooling, the leaves crisping.

Beyond the natural world, this time of year comes with a cultural shift, back to school, busy schedules, and the holidays approaching.

I notice that when I pay too much attention to my calendar, to what’s to come, I can start to feel overwhelmed. Whereas if I attune my senses to the sights, the sounds, and the smells of fall, I experience the little daily delights of this season.

This fall our campus will host many opportunities to delight in the small things—through spiced lattes at One Another Coffee, through seasonal produce at our weekly farmers market, through a family-friendly fall festival hosted by Sprouts School at Charis Park, through local pumpkins from Mission Compost, and through a farm-to-table dinner to celebrate Friends of Charis Park.

I hope you’ll slow down a bit with us.
