“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.”

What’s Good

Last week, Jess shared with us that Charis Park is almost finished. The amount of work that’s been done by our landscape architects, Coral Studios, and construction team, Agave Design, in that time is more than we could have imagined. Sunset Ridge Church celebrated its 75th anniversary with a picnic luncheon in the park, and it would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of crews working day in and out last week. While it will still be a few more weeks until the final touches are completed, this progress is monumentous. Thank you to every person who has been involved in this work.

SEVENTY-FIVE AND ONE

Message from Mae Czarnecki, Communications Coordinator, Sunset Ridge Collective

I have recently celebrated my one year anniversary of being on Staff at Sunset Ridge Collective. In this time, I have seen us welcome countless families through the newly established coffee truck, our Second Saturdays on the lawn, through Sprouts School, and each Sunday at church. I am giddy over all who will enjoy Charis Park upon its completion this summer.

Sunset Ridge Collective is the missional expression of Sunset Ridge Church, who’s congregation consists of people that have been invested in this community for decades. As I prepared for the church’s 75 year anniversary celebration, I got to go through seventy five years of pictures. The images delivered stories of luncheons, baptisms, puppet shows, and weddings. I recognized the younger faces of congregants here who I still barely know, and can feel their joy radiating through the photos in my hands. I also found articles detailing information about what these buildings and land were before it became a church home.

Sitting at the 11 am service yesterday morning, pausing my work of content creation, I heard our pastor Scott Heare invite us to “bring our history forward to sit right beside us.” I thought of my office, a few yards away, covered in poster boards and boxes of images I’d been thumbing through for weeks. Sitting in a history seemingly disconnected from the person sorting through the memories, I then realized that history of longevity paved the way for me, and everyone who interacts with our campus.

The theme for Charis Park’s grand opening this fall is “Growing Together, Rooted in Community'', which is written in several different places in my office as a reminder that where we came from has laid the groundwork for where we are going. This inspires me to stay present in my work here to contribute my piece to the legacy of this community–one year so far for me and 75 for the church. Every new person who brings their presence, creativity, and joy to a community becomes a part of its story. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this story, sharing it, and helping create a future for new stories to unfold.
