“Everything that is meant for you will feel like a deep exhale, as though you are returning home to a place you forgot existed.”

What’s Good
It was a joy to celebrate our Collective Coordinator & Worship Leader Noëlle Lowry as she welcomed her first child Sebastian James. Women of all ages showered her with love and treats and we are overjoyed for Noëlle and Scott.
This weekend our Executive Director, Jess Lowry, was invited by Princeton Theological Seminary to lead a series of workshops on the role of the church and social enterprise. Church leaders from around the country gathered to learn how they could use their buildings and property to create good in their community. One Another Coffee, Coworking, Charis Park, are some of the examples of social enterprises that we have created to use our assets at Sunset Ridge for good.
Finding Home In Community
Kimberly Turner, Personal Trainer & Yoga Instructor, Nyx Wellness
Allow me to introduce myself. You may have seen me with my moon decaled shirt roaming the building, or my clients hauling weights across the hall (smiling of course), or the steadily growing group of yogis practicing on Second Saturday at Charis Park. I am the quiet but passionate leader of Nyx Wellness.
Nyx is a fitness and yoga studio located on the second floor of Sunset Ridge Collective. Building community and a sense of connectedness is of high value in the collective and my journey to becoming a part of this community is no different.
As a Terrell Heights neighbor myself, I have long been following the journey of the Sunset Ridge Collective and the highly anticipated Charis Park. A year ago, I started my own journey and opened my personal training and yoga business, Nyx Wellness. In the beginning stages I was working in homes and random parks and places around town. I saw the way the Sunset Ridge Church was repurposing their space for community use and pondered the potential of hosting a yoga class at the campus. On a whim I reached out to Taylor and we met for coffee one morning to talk about it. She showed me all the wonderful things they were doing, and we talked about the yoga they host for Second Saturday.
As I said before, I am typically quiet and contemplative, but something in my heart pushed me to ask about the possibility of renting out a room in the building and she was all for it. I left feeling anxious but excited about the possibilities. Could this really work? Am I ready to take this leap? This is a dream that I have been manifesting for years. A small space to work with private clients, nestled right in the neighborhood, less than a mile from home. A steadily brewing community of people that hold many of the same values as myself.
I think we all know what happened next–I took the leap.
I started working on renovating the room in February and trained my first clients in the space in March. I did much of the work myself and while it was an exhausting labor of love, this is where the community began to build. I got recommendations from others in the building, borrowed tools, and got to know the collective and church staff who quickly began cheering on my work and have become part of my everyday community.
My first morning hello comes from Theresa when we’re the only ones in the building during the early hours of the day. I know that Sean’s favorite color is purple–it’s mine too. Whether she realizes it or not, Mae’s artistic storytelling behind the camera has inspired and changed how I create my own content. Conversations with Taylor feel like a warm hug and always make me feel better when I’m feeling uneasy over how fast this has happened. Nancy has the best smile, and I know when she buzzes me into the building it will be contagious. I could go on with experiences I’m sure you’ve shared too.
Being in this community has felt like a big relaxing sigh. Like I have finally exhaled and found my home. My love is movement, breath, building strength and improving the self. I hope that my contribution to this community will continue to foster the interconnectedness and love that I already feel here. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms. Don’t be afraid to say hello!
